PostingPrice - A Personal Project

PostingPrice is a project of mine that stemmed from the smaller task of calculating the price of a used laptop. PostingPrice is now a full-blown website that provides the average selling price of virtually any item sold second-hand.

My goal was to make PostingPrice as extendable as possible, which required a lot of design strategy. It supports an limitless hierarchical category structure, where each category can have its own attributes. Child categories inherit all attributes from parents while remaining quick and efficient.

PostingPrice is by far the largest and most complex site I have built to date, and was therefore a great learning experience. I became familiar with using public services such as Amazon, eBay, and reCaptha APIs. I learnt a lot about search engine optimization, database design, and object-oriented PHP.

Unfortunately due to its size (43,000 dynamically linked pages), if a search engine crawls PostingPrice my small host is unable to keep up and my account gets disabled. Because the primary purpose of this site was to be a personal case study and not a money-making business, I have disabled search engine crawling which pretty much makes PostingPrice hidden and unused by the public.
