Welcome to StudioShorts, the online portfolio of Jason Grimme - an artist, programmer, and web developer. I am currently a full-time student at Appalachian State University in North Carolina where I am majoring in Computer Information Systems.

I consider myself to be lucky, as I have found myself to be one of those people who gets a thrill out of programming and design. Everything I know about computers is not because I took a class or had an assignment, but because I have an enormous amount of interest in web/application development. All of my skills are self-taught by reading a book and experimenting with code, and I am always enthusiastic about learning more.

I am currently employed at ECR Software, a mid-sized company specializing in Point-of-Sales software and equipment. Here I do a little bit of everything, including web development, computer service and repair, and network-related tasks. I learn so much with this job and have a blast every day.
For the past three years I have spent my summer as a technical student at SAS Institute Inc., a large software company located in Cary, North Carolina. Here my role has been to maintain divisional websites and develop online tools to enhance team productivity.

Programming: A vast majority of my programming is geared towards web development. I use industry standards and require that all my code validates (most others do not; try a few). Unless otherwise requested, I prefer to use LAMP (Linux, Apache, PHP, MySQL) environment with XHTML, JavaScript and CSS. I have limited experience in Java/JSP, Ruby on Rails, SAS, C++, and always looking to learn some more.

Graphics: After programming the functionality of an application, it's always nice to give it an attractive appearance. I am very experienced with Adobe Photoshop, ImageReady, Illustrator, and most of their competing products.

While a studio is no doubt the workplace of an artist, 'shorts' most likely requires an explanation. Most people like to wear shorts in the summer and on the beach, but I like to wear them in the rain and snow. Everybody has their own unique traits, and wearing shorts is definitely one of mine.
