    Casa Bella Resort

Casa Bella is a small, one page site with the main purpose of providing specific details about a rental property in Nicaragua. I wanted to show some large pictures up front in the slide show, and then have a nice virtual tour photo gallery as well.

This was a simple project with jQuery, XHTML, and CSS.

  • PostingPrice.com

    Posting Price

PostingPrice is the best site that nobody uses, mainly because nobody knows about it. It was a project of mine with the primary purpose of grasping a strong understanding of databases. It has the intention of providing the selling prices of items through second-hand markets such as eBay and Craigslist.

It supports a limitless hierarchical category structure, where each category can have its own attributes. Child categories inherit all attributes from parents while remaining quick and efficient. At the time it was the most complex site I built, and was therefore a great learning experience. I became familiar with using public services such as Amazon, eBay, and other APIs. I learnt a lot about search engine optimization, database design, and object-oriented PHP.

  • ClearstoneSpa.com

    ClearStone Spa

ClearStone Spa is a spa located in Houston Texas that provides stunning services such as laser hair removal. The site needed to contain a large amount of information on each page so as to answer any question a potential customer could think of.

Working with Asp.Net was a requirement for this project which is outside of my preference. I also developed a newsletter application to allow customers to enroll and receive regular messages and coupons from the spa owners.

  • GabToGo.com

    Gab To Go

Gab to Go is a product of RightBrain Factory - a game company based in North Carolina. Working for them, I created a website for Gab to Go prior to its release. The site required a secure e-commerce section for customers to order products.

I really enjoyed working on this project because I got a chance to use many of my skills, as I was in charge the design, graphics, and code behind the site. I have maintained a relationship with the company and still perform regular updates to the site.

  • CraigZilla

    CraigZilla

CraigZilla is a free plug-in I developed for Mozilla Firefox that integrates with Craiglist.org. On Craigslist, it is usually the first person who makes contact with the seller that wins the sale. CraigZilla gives you an advantage - allowing you to monitor and receive notifications for any categories you want at a glance.

As a frequent Craigslist user, I found myself needing a tool that made it easier to use. CraigZilla is powered by JavaScript while the user interface is written in XUL. It has been translated into several foreign languages such as Polish, Dutch, and French. The satisfaction that comes from having built CraigZilla is great, but knowing that over 50,000 people are using it is amazing.

Welcome

Studio Shorts is the online portfolio for me, Jason Grimme. I am a self-taught web and software developer who likes to dabble in graphic design. I am a recent graduate from Appalachian State and reside in Raleigh, North Carolina where I do software development at a Fortune 500 company.

I learned all this in my free time because I enjoy doing it, imagine what I can do working for you!

Talents

While my primary talent is humor, I do posses some knowledge in the area of software.
I am very proficient when working with PHP, C#, PowerShell, VB, SQL, JavaScript, HTML, XHTML, CSS, and XML.
I am familiar with working with Silverlight, Java, Ruby on Rails, and SAS.
I have worked in both Linux and Windows environments, and for development I prefer the Linux, Apache, MySQL, PHP stack.
I am also highly skilled with Photoshop, Illustrator, Dreamweaver, VisualStudio, and SharePoint.

Background

While I have a degree in Computer Information Systems, where my heart truly lies is with Computer Science. While I have taken very few classes in software development, it is my hobby and I have picked it up through reading many books and a lot of self-motivated practice. I have been a software developer at three companies, two of which are Fortune 500 companies.

Enthusiasm

As mentioned earlier, I have a strong liking to software development and enjoy learning every day. My skills are self taught and acquired on-the-fly while working on projects. I am a very fast learner and am very enthusiastic about development. My HTML validates, I stay away from Flash when possible, follow design patterns, and despise Internet Explorer.

Contact

If you would like to ask me a question, propose something, or simply wish me a good day, please do so! I would like to hear from you. The only thing I ask is for your name and email so that I may properly respond.
